US Virgin Islands weddings

ike the BVI, the the US Virgin Islands across the channel are a magical locaton. Weddings on the US Virgin Islands combine the ease of entry of the a United States territory with the exclusive, luxurious and tropical ambiance of some of the nicest islands in the Caribbean. The US Virgin Islands are a yachtman's paradise, and one can spend days boating between St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John, and spending time on the plethora of deserted beaches. You really can't go wrong on the US Virgin Islands if you're planing a wedding.

Getting to the US Virgin Islands is super easy, since it's a US territory. You can fly into Henry Rohlsen International Airport (St. Croix) or Cyril E King which serves the other two islands of St. Thomas and St. John.

The marriage license requirements are not as easy as those in your home state, so don't be fooled into thinking that's the case just becuase it's a US territory. You will need to submit documents 8 days before you land (actually, they need to arrive at the courthouse 8 days beforehand), along with $100. You don't have to wait once you're on the islands in order to get married, but you will need to be prepared. Once on the island, you will have to go in person to the St. Thomas courthouse to pick up your license.

What to do in the US Virgin Islands

There are many, many fantastic things to do if you have a wedding on the US Virgin Islands. You can have an awesome barbecue, bonfire or rehearsal dinner on a beautiful beach. You can hire a boat and take a sunset cruise. You can sail out to some of the outlying Virgin Islands and go exploring (like Annegada - check out our British Virgin Islands wedding photography resource page for information about Annegada). The diving in the Virgin Islands is spectacular as well.

We recommend the US Virgin Islands wholeheartedly. The resorts there are fantastic, the islands are full of adventurous activities, yet there's a developed tourism infastructure so you can have your wedding catered with professionalism and luxury. At the same time, the hotels are not high-rise megaresorts, but are rather quality guest houses, vacation rentals, or extremely beautiful low-key resorts. There are no gigantic, 40-story hotels, so the islands remain distinctly Caribbean.
