This doesn’t look like thinset to me…

June 26th, 2008

So… aside from building out our basement into a studio, we’ve got other big plans. Redoing the entire floor, redoing two bathrooms, redoing a kitchen. When we move we’ll have renovated almost every room in the house, as well as every window and the roof. What?!

Aaaaaanyway, Alicia went to the local home center the other day to pick up some thinset, which we needed for the tiling job in one of the bathrooms. She came back with this:

Thinset

Doesn’t look like thinset to me. It was “on loan” for a day and it went back to its family after a few hours. But we were both a bit smitten, so… who knows what’s next!

Always look on the bright side of life!

I got to photograph Amy and Rob’s wedding recently in Sonoma, California, at the Jacuzzi Vineyard. Amy and Rob were laughing together all day long — it’s so obvious why they made a great couple. On the way down the aisle, they whistled the Monty Python song “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” — and had all their guests join them. Ha! I also loved that they chose their ceremony spot right in the middle of the grapevines. It was so cool. Everything about the afternoon was just about perfect. Here are a few shots from the day, followed by a slideshow.

Congratulations Amy and Rob!

Engagement photography in Vail, Colorado

June 23rd, 2008

So I’ve been shooting a lot of e-session lately, the most recent with Caroline and Ty, who are getting married next month at Beano’s Cabin up in Beaver Creek. We decided to head over to the Betty Ford Alpine Garden for their photos, which was a ton of fun. There were some really dramatic storm clouds in the sky, and all the way there it rained on me — but as soon as we started shooting, the weather cleared and we had some good conditions to shoot in. Super excited for the wedding — Caroline and Ty are awesome! Here are some faves from the day.

Beaver Creek wedding photography at Beano’s Cabin

June 23rd, 2008

A few weeks ago, Susan and Chris got married at Beano’s Cabin, a really cool rustic venue up in the mountains in Beaver Creek. Susan was full of sass on the dance floor and I had an awesome time shooting the evening. Among several highlights were fantastic toasts by Chris’ buddies and Susan’s sisters and mom, a hilarious father-daughter dancing surprise, and a couple of bears wandering around outside Beano’s during the toasting. I’m still trying to figure out how wedding coordinator Jen Hammond organized that! All in all, an awesome evening that went well into the night. Scroll on down for some favorites, as well as a slideshow at the end. Susan, Chris, a huge congrats!

Rocky Mountain National Park Engagement Photos

June 21st, 2008

Jen and Nick are getting married in September up in Wyoming, so we got to do an engagement session recently. They’re awesome! They were high school sweethearts and they’ve got this great vibe between them, which makes them a ton of fun to photograph. We did the whole engagement shoot at Lumpy Ridge, which is up here in Estes Park in Rocky Mountain National Park. Their two boxers, Doyl and Betsy, came along for the adventure, but couldn’t come into the park. Still, we got a few fun shots of their dogs right at the park boundary. I really wanted to bring Toots and have them play together, but that could have been out of control. Here are a few faves from the afternoon. Can’t wait for the wedding!

Bay Area engagement photos

June 12th, 2008

Craziness! I just finished up an epic trip to California, highlighted by a few days of climbing in Yosemite, followed by Amy and Rob’s wedding in Sonoma, followed by Joanna and Jason’s engagement session all over the Bay Area. It was an exhausting but absolutely awesome week.

I think I’ll work backwards here and post shots of Joanna and Jason’s e-session, which was super fun. The morning after I shot the wedding, Joanna and Jason picked me up in a coffee shop in Sonoma and we headed all over the place — it made for a super fun afternoon. First we cruised through the wine country, to some vineyards, fields and an abandoned barn, and later we headed into the city to shoot at Fort Point, throughout San Francisco, and Baker Beach. Joanna and Jason sure know their ABCs (ABC: Always Be Charging) — check out the final few images where they ran through the surf in the frigid water and then laid down in it. That’s what I call commitment!

I’m so excited for their wedding next year in Santa Barbara — it’s going to be beautiful, and Joanna and Jason will be charging for sure. :)

Engagement photos in Rocky Mountain National Park

June 3rd, 2008

Nicole, Gawain and I got to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park a few days ago to shoot an engagement session that was totally fun. These two rock! We wandered around Lumpy Ridge for a while and found some of the most beautiful aspen groves, and then we headed up into the Alluvial Fan area of the park for some more engagement photos. I’m so excited to photograph their wedding in August — it’ll be at an amazing overlook in Colorado National Monument, which is one of my most favorite places in Colorado. Awesome!
