Beaver Creek Wedding Mania

July 25th, 2007

Had a fun time shooting Noelle and Eric’s wedding in Beaver Creek. Awesome couple with a totally fun crowd of guests. Lots of artists, musicians, etc in the house, so after I shot the dance floor to death, I pulled out the weirdest trick in the arsenal: the Lensbaby. This strange little lens is basically two pieces of clear plastic stuck together with a flexible vacuum hose. It lets you have selective focus, so you can bend the lens around to focus only on one part of the frame. It gives a really odd effect. One thing I wasn’t expecting was that the DJs lights really brought out all the lens’ imperfections, which is part of its charm, and in some of the shots there’s what appears to be a wrapping of cellophane around the subjects. Check out the pix!

Palo Alto Wedding with a Hawaiian Flair

July 9th, 2007

Just shot Alex and Jasen’s wedding in Palo Alto, which was really cool. Alex’s family is from Hawaii, so the groomsmen were in Hawaiian shirts and the bride’s maids were in orange floral dresses. Lots of colors, which is a photographic dream. During the ceremony, I was standing at the back of the chapel and a little kid just teetered out of one of the pews and decked in the middle of the aisle. I dropped down and got the hilarious picture below. She laid there for a while watching the ceremony, and then picked herself up and disappeared. Pretty funny. After the ceremony, Alex and Jasen wanted some shots at the Puglas Water Temple, a monument built for the arrival of Hetch Hetchy water in San Francisco. The grounds were closed, so Alex, being the adventurer she is, proceeded to break in. In her wedding dress! Check out the shots. And Alex, Jasen — congrats! Let’s go climbing next time I’m in California!

Engagement photos in Rocky Mountain National Park

July 5th, 2007

I’ve been neglecting my blog lately! Bad bad bad. But today I decided to update things with a short post. I’m in California right now preparing for a week of photo shoots. 14 corporate head shots, 3 magazine assignments and two weddings. Whoah! I flew in the evening of July 4th, so I managed to see fireworks shows from the airplane from Denver all the way to California. The coolest was flying into San Luis Obispo, where I got to see the fireworks exploding above the thick marine layer that had formed over the ocean. It was amazing watching these bursts illuminate the fog below.

Aaaanyway, a few days ago I shot Allison and Ben’s engagement session. We cruised in and out of Rocky Mountain National Park, and along the scenic Highway 7 with their two pups. Came away with some cool stuff. Congrats, you two! I look forward to the wedding!
